Cancer as a Qualifying Condition
A diagnosis of cancer — at any stage and of any type — qualifies for the NJ Medical Marijuana Program. Cannabis therapy is particularly valuable for managing the substantial symptom burden that accompanies cancer treatment, including chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, pain, appetite loss, and sleep disruption.
Medical cannabis does not treat cancer itself, but it is one of the most effective tools available for improving quality of life during treatment and recovery. It is also used in palliative settings to improve comfort in advanced disease.
Symptoms Cannabis May Help
- Chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV)
- Cancer-related pain (including neuropathic pain from treatment)
- Appetite loss and cancer-related weight loss
- Sleep disruption and fatigue
- Anxiety and mood disturbance related to diagnosis
- Radiation-related inflammation and discomfort
