Insurance We Accept
Most patients pay $0 for their medical cannabis evaluation at PremierMD. We accept Medicare, Medicaid, and most commercial plans — something almost no other cannabis program in NJ offers.
The Difference It Makes
Other Services Charge $150–$200 Out of Pocket. We Don't.
Most medical cannabis certification services in New Jersey are telehealth platforms that charge a flat fee — $99, $150, $199 — regardless of your insurance. For patients on fixed incomes, on Medicare or Medicaid, or who simply can't afford an out-of-pocket expense, this is a real barrier to care.
PremierMD is a full-service medical practice. That means we bill insurance the same way your primary care doctor does. If your insurance covers a medical evaluation — and for most NJ patients, it does — your cannabis evaluation is covered too.
We verify your coverage before your appointment so you know exactly what to expect. No surprises at checkout.

Insurance Plans We Accept
Government Programs
Part B covers medical evaluations. Most Medicare patients pay $0–$20 for their visit. Both traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans accepted.
NJ Medicaid (NJ FamilyCare) and managed Medicaid plans accepted. Most patients pay $0 for their evaluation. This is extremely rare in the cannabis certification space.
Aetna Medicare, Horizon Medicare Blue, UnitedHealthcare Medicare, Cigna Medicare Advantage, and others. Coverage varies by plan.
All NJ FamilyCare managed care plans accepted, including AmeriHealth Caritas, Horizon NJ Health, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, and WellCare.
Commercial Insurance
What Exactly Is Covered?
Yes. The physician evaluation — the appointment where your doctor reviews your medical history and determines whether cannabis therapy is appropriate — is billed as a standard medical office visit (E&M visit). This is covered by most insurance plans the same way a primary care visit would be. Most patients with Medicare or Medicaid pay $0.
No. Insurance does not cover the purchase of cannabis products at dispensaries — this is a federal limitation, as cannabis remains a Schedule I substance federally. Your insurance covers the physician evaluation and ongoing management visits at PremierMD, not the cannabis products themselves.
In most cases, yes. PremierMD schedules quarterly follow-up visits to monitor your treatment, plus the annual recertification required by NJ state law. All of these visits are billed as regular medical office visits and are typically covered by your insurance subject to your plan's copay or deductible.
We offer self-pay rates for patients without insurance. Please call our office to discuss pricing. We also help uninsured patients determine whether they may be eligible for NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid) — many patients are surprised to learn they qualify.
After you submit your intake form or call us, our billing team contacts your insurance company directly to verify benefits before your appointment. We will let you know your estimated cost before your visit.
